For the last 4 months we have been on the search for the most remote, scenic & quirky stays around the Eastern Cape as we road trip for the next month right around the Eastern Cape border. This trip is a prize sponsored by Eastern Cape Parks and Tourism, as Michael Monk entered a photo competition earlier this year and won a trip of our choice around the Eastern Cape. We wanted to find funky remote getaways showcasing what our province has to offer. We will be reviewing each spot with a YouTube film as well as blog form.
Kleinrivier Mountain Escapes has a variety of accommodation, we stayed in Dassie cottage 4 which is nestled in the valley tucked amongst the mountains. This spot is only a 1 hour drive inland of Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth) and provides tranquility with amazing views of the surrounding mountains. With no power or service, only 12v camping fridge & solar powered lights it makes the perfect place to go and switch off. Dassie 4 is their largest of the cabins that can sleep 4 people. With an indoor fireplace that warms up the entire cabin nice and cosy, as well as an outdoor bonfire pit & braai place. This units bathroom opens up with sliding doors onto its own private garden. Each cabin is very private from one another, tucked amongst the natural bush in the riverine.
There are many hiking trails around the area as well as mountain biking tracks. This spot is perfect for nature lovers looking for a break from the busy city life.
Look out for the next getaway that's not far from this one! Down below you can view our YouTube review of Kleinrivier Dassie 4.
