As we plan or next trip with Eastern Cape Parks & Tourism we have been reminiscing on all the beautiful places we have already been lucky enough to see this year throughout of country. Since all these lockdown levels, local travel has been advised and we are so fortunate to have such a beautiful country to explore with some of the best places on your doorstep, may it be wondering the hills, traversing the mountains or soaking up the salty beach air! For the next month we will be doing a round trip along the Eastern Cape boarder exploring some hidden gems! But for now lets talk about Albert Falls Dam.
This dam is situated in KZN just outside of Pietermaritzburg, a short distance from Durban and definitely a tranquil getaway from the big city. We stopped there with not much prior knowledge about the area and we were instantly blown away by its beauty and abundance of wildlife. The campsite was called Msini Albert Falls, situated right on the Albert Falls Dam overlooking the mountains in the distance. We were lucky enough to be the only ones there amongst a hundred other campspots for the entire 3 nights & 4 days we were there, with only the ostriches and numerous buck! Due to the crocodiles this dam isn't optimal for swimming however fishing is allowed.
I would definitely recommend this spot for a peaceful getaway with the most stunning views and gorgeous sunsets over the mountains lighting them up all different colours. The camp spots also have power & water so the perfect spot to get some work done for those digital nomads and overall a bomb spot for all round campers. We have updated our website where we have added a page for our travels which contains a map pin pointing all the camps spots we have been to with a short review of our experience, go check it out!
